INVASION 1897 REVIEW (2014)

Hey darlings,
I choose this particular art work for this movie because I thought it best showcased or gives a summary of what the movie was about, (the others I just didn't like) today we are looking at 'Invasion 1897', a movie by a well known director , Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen.  Shot in Benin city in Nigeria and London in United Kingdom as most movies are trying to cross the barriers across continents. It tells the sad story of the events that occasioned the invasion of the great Benin empire in 1987, leading to the deportation of the monarch Oba Ovonramwen to Calabar.

First of all, I would commend the graphic effects explored in this movie, It is an applaudable attempt even though there were few obvious lapses like the set used as the office of the British officers which was poorly built with zero attempt to hide the shabbiness by the cinematographer. Also, the character played by Mike Omeregbee being the Oba himself was amazing; carriage on point, delivery superb, CMI excellent (FYI:CMI means character mood intensity). Seriously, he nailed it for me...and to think that this movie was his debut in Nollywood,(ahhh..one gboza for him abeg).
'Invasion 1897' is very enlightening and educative especially to people such as myself that are not from Benin, but then not as entertaining. Some folks I watched the movie with at the cinema thought it would cut across better as a documentary(am only re-echoing what I heard oo)LOL. It seemed like the oga at the top of the film concerntrated so much on telling the story of the invasion that he almost left out the aesthetics every movie should possess. I mean, if film has to do with willful suspension of disbelief, then I should be getting entertained while at it, (am just saying). Well, this movie is a pleasant work of art.

He wants to return the priceless work of history and records of the Benin people to Benin:the original owners, but went about it the wrong way and of course the laws catches up with him. In his defence, he narrates the events that led to the globally renowed epic story of the Great Benin kingdom.
