Hello my darling..
Happy EMBER, we are
officially in the ember months. Quick reminder that the year is drawing to an
end and am not yet a millionaire..uhh. Well, story for another day. I hope we
are all basking in the euphoria of a new month cos I am (I guess)..lol.
Straight to the business of the day, we are
dissecting the movie 4-1-LOVE today. It’s a movie produced by Okey Ezugwu,
written by and directed by Ikechukwu Onyeka. it stars Lilian Esoro Franklin,
Bovi Ugboma, Alex Ekubo, Ebele Okaro, Kenneth Okonkwo amongst others.
This is a feel good kind of film, It had a very good, natural and relatable story to tell and it was well told, it was a breath of fresh air for me because we don’t get to see this kind of movies a lot these days, looks like everyone is concentrated on being posh and slowly losing sight of the integral parts of film making. Anyway, I loved the story treatment and character profiling by ‘osaze’ played by Bovi. I assumed that, like most of his colleagues that tilt to acting, he would over do the whole comic thing. But I was pleasantly surprised. He carried his character awesomely from start to finish, didn’t work too hard to be funny but succeeded in cracking us (my friends and I that saw the movie together) up from time to time. His acting was quite tasteful . Also, the character played by Ebele Okaro was another high point for me. Even though her character is shady and cunning, she brought life to it with her blends of vernacular and mannerisms. I practically looked forward to her scenes throughout the movie. Veteran actor, Kenneth Okonkwo and Lilian Esoro Franklin also showed that they weren’t learners in the business as they brought their A-game. I would jut like to add that whoever edited the trailer should be shot! (yes I said it). You can not take a movie that is good and turn it to crap while trying to promote it. Not cool! In other words ignore the trailer
On the flip side, the lighting on the entire interior scenes were very poor; there were scenes where we could barely see the images, what we could see were movements basically. Also, some funny acts were pulled and it made me wonder if they were deliberate directions given by the director or . . . (I don’t know). For instance, the scene where Osaze and his crew robbed a man in a hotel room after drugging him and ran out of the hotel. When I say ran out, I mean ran out with the stolen properties in their hands and nobody stopped them. Not the front office person, not the security. No one! Also, some small mistakes that could have been fixed with a simple re-take (if the continuity person paid attention). For instance, the character of Uju played by Lilian Esoro Franklin would call her mother ‘mama’ at one point and ‘mum’ the next. I mean, these are the tiny details that distinguishes the level a movie belong to in the film industry. It is said that there’s no such thing as a small role in a movie, it also implies to those behind the camera. (Am just saying)
All in all, 4-1-LOVE is a movie worth seeing; not only does it have a moral, it is super entertaining.
SYNOPSIS
The movie centers on the lives of a
deportee and his girlfriend who have turned to internet scam as a means to an
end. They exploit their facebook friends for quick cash and soon they fall
victim of their own game.
I rate
this work 7/10.
Enjoy the trailer you should ignore
