Hey my darlings

Today, this epic movie 'The Antique' is the movie we are discussing please remember the word "epic". This is a traditional movie set in the Western part of Nigeria dated back to the 19th century, tells a historically fictionalized tale of a certain community that lost a very significant antique to some mystical beings. That antique turns out to be the only antidote to an ailment that befalls the heir to the throne of that community, and so a girl was sent to find the antique.

Now, I was particularly caught by the opening glee in this movie. I mean Seun Akindele killed it, the graphics and actions were amazing and so in sync. There's no way anybody would see that and not want to see what happens after. There was also this scene with a river goddess,I absolutely loved the placement of action.  Brilliant work there.. The story isn't totally alien to us,I mean there has been a lot of movies with same storyline but the director did his best to distinguish this work from the rest. Another thing I commend is the use of fresh faces and the downplay of the 'stars'. It gives beginners hope and opportunity to showcase, grow and take their place in this very broad industry of ours. But,what I quarrel with is the shallow acting in this movie, there was little or no depth in characterization. I think the director didn't pay due attention to this. For instance: the characters of the 3 warriors that were supposed to guard the lady to the 'no mans land' where the antique was hidden were nothing close to warriors. I mean, I saw them fall out of character a lot of times and having a director, that shouldn't happen that much. There were sum shabby actions that weren't well played out, like when they were caught in a net and how the last warrior died to mention a few which is what i meant by epic
Well, all in all, it was a good movie, could be better..but still very cool. You should totally check it out.

THE ANTIQUE REVIEWS (2015)

Hello My peeps,
I hope y'all are doing great cos I am feeling exceptionally cool today(yet to find out why anyways)...so, some time during the week, I was at the cinema with my friend hoping to see 'the wedding ringer'(Hollywood). We got there around 1:25PM as the movie was slated for 1:50PM according to their official website. To our dismay, the website fed us wrong info. The movie wasn't showing by 1PM afterall, we had to see another film. 'The Department' was the closest so we went for it. Am taking this much time to explain the circumstances that led to this movie for emphasis.
This movie is a thriller that starrs Desmond Elliot, majid Michel, jide kosoko, osas ighodaro,o.c ukeje and many more.

Now, to the movie proper: let's go from the good part to the not-so-good part. I think the writer did a great job with the script, it is very different, detailed and somewhat complex. The actors were brillant, they tried to bring the characters to live. But I would humbly disagree with the choice of Osas ighodaro as 'Tolu'. I didnt think she did justice to that character, I would say 'Tolu' is not in her to give(no disrespect). The entire movie was poorly lit, I dont know if that was a concept or something but I particularly didn't enjoy that. Also, the costumes and make up were very much below average, looked like they forgot that the actors will actually need clothes and then it hit them suddenly and  they used whatever they could lay their hands on especially the character of Tolu. There was this 'sucobla'(a combination of suit, coat and blazer) that one of the characters wore that cracked everybody up in the viewing hall.the lady sitting beside me said that 'sucobla' will make 3 dresses for her comfortably(lol).
The first 30 minutes of the movie was almost boring because we couldn't just get the gist. Medway, tempo picked up. I respect the courage to do this kind of work, its bright, challenging, different and rare.kudos to the director, but permit me to say this:if you must take up such a project, be certain you can see it through.just a thought..

SYNOPSIS
Tolu is part of a secret criminal department in one of the prominent conglomerates in the country until she falls in love and gets married. Now,she is a bored housewife looking for a job.the department calls her back for one last job which she accepts against her husbands' wish. Her husband is out to make sure she fails to save their marriage.

Produced by Ink Blot productions in association with Closer Pictures, the movie parades  actors like O.C Ukeje, Desmond Elliot, Majid Michel, Osas Ighodalo, Jide Kosoko,Kenneth Okolie, Seun Akindele, Somkele Iyamah, and a host of others.

Sorry at the moment I cant tell you which cinemas that are still showing it but am sure if would soon be out on DVD or online.
