Hello my darlings,
it’s a new week and I expect that we are all basking in good health. And so that’s how I carried myself to the cinema sometime this week to see a particular movie that I have been waiting to see (won’t name names, so I don’t spoil things for us), only to realize that it wasn’t showing at the cinema where I was. Ah! You can imagine my disappointment. Then again, I thought am here already, All that money I spent getting here can’t be in vein. I looked through the schedule and opted for this movie, so let’s see how that went.

I enjoyed the fact that this movie had a simple and realistic story, one that a good number of young Nigerians can relate to because my darlings, the hustle is real. The length people go to impress their fellow humans in this day and time is quite alarming and that’s the hubris of the character of Victor in the movie. The story was very accommodating and easy to fly with. Bearing in mind that comedy is the hardest genre of movie to create, this is a very good attempt at it. They did their best to clean up their acts. The character played by Shaffy Bello was my high point in the movie, the grace and manner in which she spoke and carried herself was totally enveloping. I practically waited for her scenes throughout the movie. Bovi, being who he is, did not disappoint either; he brought his A game in the most relaxed format. Adunni Ade’s character was refreshing as well and the collection of pretty girls in this movie sha..ah!

But I couldn’t help but notice the abrupt ends of the scenes, it was neither smooth nor subtle. Came across like there was always something that was being cut off and that was not nice.  I had a hug problem with the character of Aunty Fowe; she was forceful and quite mechanical. This watered down the hiked tempo other characters had worked hard to build. The plotting of the movie was kind of feeble as there were quite a lot of scenes that could have done away with and the story will remain unaltered. For instance, the scene of the traditional wedding: there was a huge wardrobe malfunction and the fact the director, costumier and editor still let us see it baffles me. I still and will always insist, until Nigerian film makers’ start paying attention to tiny details such as this, our journey to being the number one film industry will be slower. It’s tacky and distracting. And of course, the cheesy ending..*rolling my eyes*.  I heard someone say in the cinema,’ I just knew that will happen’ and am like duh!! Thought I was being hyper critical. For a film that obviously had big financial backing this movie looks and feels like a low budget production of Nigerian standards (Just saying o)

Please, there’s something I really need to know: is it not the same lapel microphones we use here that the folks over there use? How come we get to see them shabbily worn on the actors here and hardily even noticed them in foreign movies? I don’t mean to compare and am not being particular with this movie because I have seen it happen in a lot of recent movies; I just don’t think it’s that difficult, probably can be sorted with camera angles. But hey, what do I know? Am just saying, what is worth doing is worth doing well. We will get there, slowly but surely.
All in all, it was a decent experience. At least, I didn’t walk out of the cinema with a long face and yes, I didn’t waste my transport fare (in this recession) lol. I can assure you guys that this movie is worth your time and money.

PANA BY Tekno
Directed by Clarence Peters

I ran into this video yesterday at a friend's place, (when I say ran I mean literally ran into the sitting room and it was playing) I thought it was an interesting concept. The asian inspired video very nice. As usually I have things I love about every video, I liked the writing or symbols on the walls, even the ones that appear and disappear. I though the girl in the video was alright. She fit the look and feel of the video. The set were off the hook, especially the one with the yellow staircase beautiful my only problem with that scene was I thought he could have moved around on the steps more, utilise it more. And now for things i didn't really care for the red walled scene not my cup of tea, naked girl in red water...ehh nope. I thought the scenes were introduced too quickly and before I got to half of the video I was bored. I don't think I should get bore while watching a music video. NOPE!.

All in all I thought it was Alright!

Enjoy

Hello my darling..

Happy EMBER, we are officially in the ember months. Quick reminder that the year is drawing to an end and am not yet a millionaire..uhh. Well, story for another day. I hope we are all basking in the euphoria of a new month cos I am (I guess)..lol.
Straight to the business of the day, we are dissecting the movie 4-1-LOVE today. It’s a movie produced by Okey Ezugwu, written by and directed by Ikechukwu Onyeka. it stars Lilian Esoro Franklin, Bovi Ugboma, Alex Ekubo, Ebele Okaro, Kenneth Okonkwo amongst others.

This is a feel good kind of film,  It had a very good, natural and relatable story to tell and it was well told, it was a breath of fresh air for me because we don’t get to see this kind of movies a lot these days, looks like everyone is concentrated on being posh and slowly losing sight of the integral parts of film making. Anyway, I loved the story treatment and character profiling by ‘osaze’ played by Bovi. I assumed that, like most of his colleagues that tilt to acting, he would over do the whole comic thing. But I was pleasantly surprised. He carried his character awesomely from start to finish, didn’t work too hard to be funny but succeeded in cracking us (my friends and I that saw the movie together) up from time to time. His acting was quite tasteful . Also, the character played by Ebele Okaro was another high point for me. Even though her character is shady and cunning, she brought life to it with her blends of vernacular and mannerisms. I practically looked forward to her scenes throughout the movie. Veteran actor, Kenneth Okonkwo and Lilian Esoro Franklin also showed that they weren’t learners in the business as they brought their A-game. I would jut like to add that whoever edited the trailer should be shot! (yes I said it). You can not take a movie that is good and turn it to crap while trying to promote it. Not cool! In other words ignore the trailer

On the flip side, the lighting on the entire interior scenes were very poor; there were scenes where we could barely see the images, what we could see were movements basically. Also, some funny acts were pulled and it made me wonder if they were deliberate directions given by the director or . . . (I don’t know). For instance, the scene where Osaze and his crew robbed a man in a hotel room after drugging him and ran out of the hotel. When I say ran out, I mean ran out with the stolen properties in their hands and nobody stopped them. Not the front office person, not the security. No one! Also, some small mistakes that could have been fixed with a simple re-take (if the continuity person paid attention). For instance, the character of Uju played by Lilian Esoro Franklin would call her mother ‘mama’ at one point and ‘mum’ the next. I mean, these are the tiny details that distinguishes the level a movie belong to in the film industry. It is said that there’s no such thing as a small role in a movie, it also implies to those behind the camera. (Am just saying)
All in all, 4-1-LOVE is a movie worth seeing; not only does it have a moral, it is super entertaining.

SYNOPSIS
The movie centers on the lives of a deportee and his girlfriend who have turned to internet scam as a means to an end. They exploit their facebook friends for quick cash and soon they fall victim of their own game.

 I rate this work 7/10.

Enjoy the trailer you should ignore

4-1 LOVE MOVIE REVIEW (2016)

Hello lovelies,
I trust that we are all in great shape. Thanks to the Almighty for that. Today, we will be putting the movie GHANA MUST GO on the chopping block. This happens to be Yvonne Okoro’s second film as a producer, we still remember ‘The Contract’ right? Yeah, that was one great movie. This work was directed by the award winning filmmaker Frank Rajah and also written by another award winner Tunde Babalola. It stars Blossom Chukwujekwu, Yvonne Okoro, IK Ogbonna, Nkem Owoh aka Osuofia, Kofi Adjorlolo, Ada Ameh amongst others.

Now to the Nays and Yays, I loved the concept and story line of this movie, you can never go wrong with a movie name like "GHANA MUST GO".It is a no brainer with all the rivalry between Nigerians and Ghanians  (Jellof Rice?? really people??). It is refreshing and easy going, you know that kind of feel-good feeling you get after your third cone of ice cream in one sitting (if that’s your guilty pleasure like me, winks!). Yvonne has made us understand that comedy is her style. The cinematography was quite good I must say. The character played by veteran actor, Nkem Owoh gave the entire movie life and that’s wasn't really surprising since he is a guru in comedy. He carried his role from start to finish, the vernacular interjection were timely and downright hilarious. When he compared her daughter in-law’s cooking to engine oil, I practically bent over with laughter. I also loved that they made visible effort in props as seen in the airport scene when Nkem Owoh and his family arrived Ghana with numerous Ghana must go bags.

Now on the flipside, comedy is meant to be fast paced.. Tip tap kind of vibe but this movie lacked that. There were so many unnecessary scenes that just kept going on and on and on: This killed the tempo. Also, the characters were shallow and that hampered the depth of the plot; for instance, Chuks’ family had little or no foundation. They just appeared and their social class wasn’t defined.
The character played by Ada Ameh was very inconsistent with her accent and that took away from the movie for me. I mean, why pick an accent if you can’t keep up with it?? (Am just saying). Now, the character played by Helen Paul to me is very irrelevant, really!! It was a complete distraction to the movie, where do I start? She tried too hard at being funny that it became almost annoying. I wondered while sipping my chilled bottle of soda in the theatre, why??? Don’t get me wrong, Helen is a pretty decent comedian in her own vein but her performance in this film was a complete downer, no offence. Other eye rolling moments were created by the character played by Ik Ogbonna. I just didn’t get it; what was he trying to pull? I just kent deal. He was utterly wrong for that role, I think that’s the nicest way to encapsulate it.
The conflict resolution was somewhat mediocre, I thought of it differently or maybe I was over expectant because of the big names behind the scenes. 0r maybe am just being super critical. Whichever! You should go see the movie and then tell me what you think, okay? Y’all better don’t keep me waiting.. Ooh and remember this is just my opinion!

I rate this work 6/10.

SYNOPSIS
Set in Accra, Ghana; this comedy revolves around a young couple in love but from different family backgrounds. These differences pose a threat to their union as both parents vent their reservations. The romantic comedy shades light on the historical events that led to the Ghana must go saga between Nigeria and Ghana.
