Hello My darlings,

A friend and I decided it was time to binge on a lot of nollywood movies, since we are not really very rich people we waited for Wednesday ( yea people, it is exactly N700 on Wednesdays at Genesis cinema which is where we decided to go). As we headed off to the cinema I was really skeptical about this movie, yes the trailer was funny but u know film makers you like to put all the ghen-ghen parts in the trailer. After we had bought our tickets and popcorns we proceed to be entertained, and boy did the blow us away.

OK, let me start from the beginning the movie was a bit dull for the first few minutes before Oc Ukeje showed up on screen and electrified the whole place. This is by far the best performance I have seen from him (you can judge me if you u like i don talk am sue me). He was funny, witty and very Nigerian. They British cast were amazing as well, the character Armani was a character you can relate to because you have seen people like her, even have friends like her. This movie touches a lot on racism and how absurd people can get on what is different and whats not. I think that Destiny Ekaragh (the director) made very smart choices, she choose the right location since a lot of Nigerians are know to live in peckham, choose the right cast, right script, and brought her a game. My only really little critic is that i think that some of the scenes ran too long even after the punch line, and also think some of the scenes could be a little more creative in terms of the camera work but all in all I thought it was brilliant!, I can tell you that if you are looking for a good laugh then you should definitely watch this movie.

SYNOPSIS:
Once his visa is approved Iku (O.C. Ukeje) comes to London to join his family. His brother Yemi (Kirby) has to show him around and get to know him, but each second with Iku drives Yemi mad.

Cast:
Malachi Kirby, O.C. Ukeje, Michael Maris, Shanika Warren-Markland, Adelayo Adedayo

Check Trailer out:
PS: Awesome writing from Bola Abaje, kudos my dear..
I forgot to finish my story after watching this movie we were so excited that we didn't bother watch anymore movies we went home instead. We decide to continue the binge next week Wednesday and of course I will tell you all about it.

Gone Too Far is showing in Genesis Deluxe Cinemas go watch it....

GONE TOO FAR REVIEW (2015)

Hey darlings,
I choose this particular art work for this movie because I thought it best showcased or gives a summary of what the movie was about, (the others I just didn't like) today we are looking at 'Invasion 1897', a movie by a well known director , Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen.  Shot in Benin city in Nigeria and London in United Kingdom as most movies are trying to cross the barriers across continents. It tells the sad story of the events that occasioned the invasion of the great Benin empire in 1987, leading to the deportation of the monarch Oba Ovonramwen to Calabar.

First of all, I would commend the graphic effects explored in this movie, It is an applaudable attempt even though there were few obvious lapses like the set used as the office of the British officers which was poorly built with zero attempt to hide the shabbiness by the cinematographer. Also, the character played by Mike Omeregbee being the Oba himself was amazing; carriage on point, delivery superb, CMI excellent (FYI:CMI means character mood intensity). Seriously, he nailed it for me...and to think that this movie was his debut in Nollywood,(ahhh..one gboza for him abeg).
'Invasion 1897' is very enlightening and educative especially to people such as myself that are not from Benin, but then not as entertaining. Some folks I watched the movie with at the cinema thought it would cut across better as a documentary(am only re-echoing what I heard oo)LOL. It seemed like the oga at the top of the film concerntrated so much on telling the story of the invasion that he almost left out the aesthetics every movie should possess. I mean, if film has to do with willful suspension of disbelief, then I should be getting entertained while at it, (am just saying). Well, this movie is a pleasant work of art.

SYNOPSIS
Igie Ehanire,a research student on African art history, is perturbed about the injustice of the British invasion in Benin. He wants to return the priceless work of history and records of the Benin people to Benin:the original owners, but went about it the wrong way and of course the laws catches up with him. In his defence, he narrates the events that led to the globally renowed epic story of the Great Benin kingdom.

CAST:

Mike Omeregbee, Segun Arinze, Paul Obazelu, Charles Inojie, Leo Mezie, British actor Charles 'chucky' Venn, Rudolf Walker, Annika A'lofti among others.

INVASION 1897 REVIEW (2014)

Hello My Darlings,

I have a declaration to make if you are a movie maker in this country and you want to shoot an action sequence in you movie you HAVE TO consult with Eric Aghimien. He has taken action to new heights (if u disagree with me you are just a hater). A mile from home has many positives and negatives as well, you know me I love the negatives first, I think the script was a bit too dramatic for the setting or plot of the movie. The conversations were not encouraging at all, the sharp cuts in edit did not do the movie any favours. The first half of the movie i was confused I wasn't sure what was happening, conversations were referring to different events that I hadn't seen yet or more like i never saw. The female characters in his movie although I know they were in a supporting capacity i think they were less than ideal for the parts they were playing.
Enough gloom now to the good stuff the male characters in this movie I give big ups to people like Tope Tedela (he's character name was Jude/Lala), Mr alex ayalor was very good in their roles but to me the most outstanding character "SUKU" was played by Chiedozie Nzeribe who nailed his character nicely I actually believe he could do all the things he did in the movie. Let me come to the highlight of this movie....THE ACTION SEQUENCES menh! you haven't seen any naija movie that has made this kind of effort. Eric did his research well, he concentrated on these parts well am guessing it affected the rest of the movie. The blood spatter, the gun shot sounds, the guns themselves look quite real.
I will recommend the movie if you are into action, blood, shoot outs and those types of things if not this movie isn't for you.

Just an observation: Why do the characters cork their gun then put back in their waist band? cos what I know from guns if they are not in safety the tend to go off #justsaying #runningaway

Synopsis:
A University student, Jude, gets into a notorious gang 'The Cul' in order to get revenge against Stone, a notorious gangster who forcefully dispossesses him of his precious watch (a gift from his father when he turned eighteen).
He decided to hop out as soon as he realised his mistake but too late.
He became the favourite of Suku, the leader of the gang, who gives him the number two position in the gang, making it more impossible for him to make any exit move.
Suku is willing to share anything with Jude but his girl, Ivie, a rich hot girl on Campus. Suku introduced him into drug dealing and he earned a new name, Lala. He left his old life behind for a path he is not proud of, a path where there is no going back.

Cast:
Tope tedela, Chiedozie Nzeribe, Alex Ayalor,Tolu Akinbileje, Eric Nwanso, Tolu Odewunmi, Mario Dave etc

Written, Directed and Produced by: Eric Aghimien

Check out the trailer

Enjoy!! This movie is no more in the cinemas don't despair you can get it on dvd at any movie vendor.

A MILE FROM HOME REVIEW (2013)

Hello My darlings,
Before I say anything, please allow me to officially say that if you have not seen this movie, then you are on a very long thing. AY(who happens to be the producer and also lead character) chose his team wisely because the movie is what the professionals may like to call 'well made'. Notwithstanding, as the saying goes, "there's no perfect work of art" but they could be a very close to perfect work of art (LOL). In that light, I think the end is very predictable and cheesy. The character played by Desmond Elliot doesn't quite fit into the story. It came across like he happened to be around the set of the movie and the character created just so he would be part of it (no offence to Desmond).

That being said, this is a feel good movie that has a bit for everybody. A comic reality with a hilarious twist of romance. Now,who doesn't want a piece Of that?? I particularly liked the interplay of Hollywood and Nollywood with Nollywood taking the upper hand. Lynn Whitfield was phenomenal, vivica Fox and Karlie Redd too. Mercy Johnsons' character was one of my high points and of course Ramsey Noauh brought his 'A' game.
Honestly, I think AY should do more movies because I have not seen him that hilarious anywhere else. The movie was shot across to continents Africa and the United States (Lagos and Atlanta Georgia)a story well told;structured and finely plotted;amazing cast and characterization;well polished. I forgot to mention well done AY for capitalising on the name AKPOS brilliant!

'30 days in Atlanta' is a movie I would recommend for anyone.

SYNOPSIS.
Akpos(Ayo Makun) wins a 30 day holiday for two to Atlanta Georgia. He takes his cousin Richard(Ramsey Nouah) on the all-expense paid trip. Akpos flings his unique personality, showing off his smartness and foolishness in an exciting mix of rhetoric and witty humour.

CAST
Ayo Makun, Ramsey Nouah,RMD, Desmond Elliot, Vivica Fox, Lynn Whitfield, Katlie Redd, Majid Michel, Omoni Oboli, Rachael Oniga, Yemi Blaq, Juliet Ibrahim.

Directed by Robert Peters, Produced by Ayo Makun "AY"

Hello my Darlings,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year welcome to 2015!!! I know I have committed a lot of offences since last year since my posts didn't come as frequent as I said it will, but I most tell you it isn't really my fault like that. we are all to blame starting from me more like a 70:30 ratio, first I get confused on which movies to watch cos I promise you it gets a bit tiring to watch terrible movies that there is no good way of being critical instead you just want to say "this is a horrible movie". Secondly you are all at fault I asked for your help in telling me which movies you want to see a review on so I can find them and do just that but i get only a few requests. Anyway this year will be different cos I will be going all out which include going for more premieres, going on sets and many exciting this like that.

I am using this opportunity to call out to all film makers in Nigeria if you have a movie that's coming out you need free publicity ( which doesn't hurt) send you stuff down to us by email and we will promote and put it up on our social media as well.
